Subject: [ROOTS-L] How old were you?

I married into a Germans from Russia family over forty years ago. For the first thirty years, I constantly heard from my father-in-law about how hard it had been for his parents to leave the old country and move to America in 1912, how the women worked in the house and worked in the fields, sometimes with ice on the hem of their dress. Finally, one day, it occurred to me that I might have ancestors, too. I started at our local LDS church, and the folks there were wonderful to help me find my first information. I have done computer research for about 8 years now, have had the opportunity to visit ancestral homes, meet relatives that I didn't know existed, and am constantly astonished at all the documentation available. I'm far from finished, but I was able to tell my father-in-law that when his parents arrived in 1912, my ancestors had been here for almost 300 years. So, I guess it was his fault that I have succumbed to the genealogy fever and will never be well again. !
Happy New Genealogy Year. Patty in Colorado
