Subject: [ROOTS-L] When did I start Genealogy?

My wife and I were expecting twins in April 1988 and we thought it would be a nice surprise for our parents to give our twins our parents' names. We had four names picked out for the first names and were planning on using our parents names for the middle names. My mother's first name is a little old-fashioned so we thought we could use her middle name. Not knowing her middle name, we asked my maternal grandmother. My grandmother was 88 years old. A day before Valentine's Day we were blessed with identical twin daughters. When I proudly told my mother we named one of the girl's after her she looked at me and quietly said it wasn't her name. Talk about a major ooops and embarrassment - - my mom appreciated the sentiment and accepted it with good humor. People began to tell us stories about twins in our families. I thought it would be a wonderful surprise to give my grandmother a family chart for her 90th birthday and I thought a little family education for myself was in order.!
  Once I
started digging into records and talking to family members the bug bit me... now I consider my family history my personal puzzle that has become my lifelong hobby (obsession).
