Subject: [ROOTS-L] Backup

All this talk about how we got started etc. I got a computer in 1992 and
started. You must backup your data. I had scanned photos - mostly all that I had.
I tried to get the data in both .ged files and word files - anything people
could read. And though I have backup systems - and while my cousins still live -
I have sent disks to all my cousins - as my cousin did with typed material
some years ago. These disks help them to be acquainted with their ancestry and
are remote backups. I have even helped the next few generation to work on their
ancestors. Share with family - don't hold it to yourself - like to write a
book or something. You may die - share. My aunt had a movie camera from the
early 1940s. Some years ago I borrowed them and put them on video tape and a few
years ago transferred to DVD. The movies didn't do well but I have video of my
grandparents who died in the early 1950s and my father - who died in 1971.
