Subject: [ROOTS-L] Pushed into genealogy

The year 1974. The local DAR chapter was going to erect a memorial for the
centennial. They were to list all the members on the memorial. I had a
teenage daughter. A member of the local chapter thought that my daughter
should be listed but to do that she needed to be a member of the Children of
the American Revolution. This lady (a widow) began to pick me for
information. I had none. She was getting on in years and no longer drove her
automobile at night. After much goading I agreed to take her to the State
Archives, which were located downtown and open on Monday nights. Only took a
couple of trips to get hooked. I did everything by hand and snail mail until
about 1983 when I acquired a TRS4 Radio Shack computer. Marvelous thing 4
mgh speed. Then the internet arrived and I upgraded. Am still looking for
John S. Savage's parents and siblings. Found him this year on 1830 census in
Abbeville S.C. ,only been looking for 30 years!! I don't hare another 30 so
I guess I'll leave the parents and siblings for someone else. Visit my web
site to view the 4700 relatives I have found.
