Subject: [ROOTS-L] My research began...

Actually I can't remember what age I was when I started!
I just know why...my father was almost 60 years old (born 1876) when I was
born (my mother was 24), a divorce followed & I was only allowed weekends &
summers with my father until I was about 13 & moved in with him. I idolized
him, as a child he would sit me in his lap, light an oil lamp & tell me the
most wonderful stories, but I lost him when I was only 17, before I thought to
actually find out about his parents, etc. I knew of his older brothers &
sisters & even met a couple, and so I had some names to refer back to. I had
brothers & sister over 30 years older than me, but for some reason, which I
didn't understand back then, they didn't consider me a sister!

After being married quite a few years tho I finally started trying to find
out more about my father. I found a couple of letters in his belongs which
were so interesting. I mailed for death certs, social security applications,
over the years wrote to any remaining family, and then finally just a little
over 3 years ago I got a computer. My whole life of researching opened up to
me at that point. For the last 12 years I have been caring for my husbands
mother who is an invalid with sever senile dementia, who will be 104 years old
this coming July. We are rather housebound the further along she goes and
the computer has been a fantastic source of opening a whole new chance for me
to find out more about my father and all my family lines. I must admit I am
really addicted to it now, certainly not as smart as so many of the
researchers that I read here online, but slowly getting there.

I have met some wonderful people thru my researching and a few that weren't,
but that's life! I want so much to leave all that I can find to my 4
children, 11 grandchildren and 14 greats.

Sites like this are a blessing, as are all the wonderful people who have
helped me. My hat is off to you all & best wishes in your own quest!
Peggy Williams Peterson
