Subject: [ROOTS-L] Cemetery History

Good morning
Since you seem to expressed any information about the history of the real
estate that might be a good starting place. You need to learn who either
donated or sold the land for use as a cemetery. It might contain some names
of either a church, town, or some formerly unknown organization such as an
Odd Fellow Lodge, Masonic Lodge, etc. These real estate records should be
in the county clerk's office and should be accessed. You might have to ask
the aid of a real estate title company in the area and if you explain the
charity part of the research they will likely ask nothing for research and
documents.
You must treat this the same as you would any genealogical research project.
You might not find what you are looking for but in the same research you
will learn some of the history of the cemetery. Knowing who is buried in
each unmarked grave as to who is buried where may not come to light but you
might find some names and family connections.
Was there ever a church close by?
My ancestors in North Alabama are buried in a church cemetery but the church
burned many, many years ago. When the church building was rebuilt it was
relocated a long way from the cemetery. The cemetery maintains the same
name and private families keep up the cemetery.
