The problem is going to be figuring out where in Canada you need to search. Not many Canadian records are nation-wide - the census is one of the few that is. So you really need to know a province at the very least. To start, here are some places you can search census records. Not all are complete, but it's a start. http://automatedgenealogy.com/ has the complete 1901 census online http://allcensusrecords.com/canada/ has info on where to find Canadian census records http://familysearch.org/ has the 1881 Canada census The 1871 INDEX to Ontario census is online on Ancestry.com and at the LAC website (see the links from http://allcensusrecords.com/canada/ ) > Jersey. MOTHER: Emily Unknown, French Canadian Catholic. She may be French Canadian from Quebec, or New Brunswick or Ontario or... so that doesn't really narrow it down. Each province keeps its own records.
