Subject: [ROOTS-L] CANADIAN RECORDS Help Needed - ''DARWIN''

Hi Everyone,
I need some help finding some Canadian records on-line. I belong to Ancestry
and will check them but I'm pretty sure the only Canadian Census that they
have is the 1911 and that's later than would do me any good (I think).

I have a friend in England who has been researching the DARWIN surname for
many years hoping to find his family who supposedly were from the east coast of
the United States and then moved to California about 1900. Along the way,
with his searches, he has helped many Darwin families trace their history while
 looking for his own family.

KNOWN FOR SURE IS....the son, Francis Charles Darwin, went to INDIA and
became a sub-editor on a newspaper there. Moved to England in the 1920s and
became an English Citizen where he died in the 1930's which was years before my
friend was born. When the family moved to from India to England all records
were lost in the move.

UNPROVEN INFORMATION.....regarding Francis Charles Darwin.
(Some information came for his application to become an English Citizen)
BORN May 1880 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois
SIGNED almost everything: B. DARWIN
FATHER: Joseph B. Darwin, b. circa 1850 in New York state. Joseph's parents
were supposed to have been from Rhode Island and New Jersey.
MOTHER: Emily Unknown, French Canadian Catholic. Possibly this is a nickname
for Emaline or something similar.
SIBLINGS: Brother David, sister Unknown. Also any birth dates or places
unknown.

I've tried almost everything I can to find them in Ancestry in the United
States and am unable to find any record of a family that would even come close
to being a possibility. Probably tomorrow I'll try some Canadian records to
see if I can find anything.

However, if anyone has some places on-line that I can search for Canadian
records I would be very grateful if you'd send them to me.

Would love to help solve my friend's mystery for him!
Thanks for any help you can give me, Gretchen
