The cardinal rule of preservation, whether it be photgraphs or documents, is
to *never* do anthing that cannot be reversed. So that rules out using
acid-free tape and lamination. Please, please do not do these things. If you
are going to use plastic sleeves, use those made of polypropylene or mylar
(per many internet sites and from a new book I received from an expert on
using photographs in genealogy, Maureen A. Taylor). Newspapers, if memory
serves me correctly, is very difficult to prevent discoloration and rather
rapid deterioration. I have some sites on document and photo preservation,
but am not at home and don't have access to the links. However, go too
www.google.com or any search engine and type in the search fields "Newspaper
Preservation" or "Document Preservation" (without quotes will work fine and
give you lots of really good resources). One good resource to try is
http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/. Somewhere in his archives
I believe I saw an article on preservation.
