Subject: [ROOTS-L] re:conflicting research

Interesting topic and one that had me stumped for years. My solution may not
suit everyone but so far, it's worked for me.

I try to save everything about a person in my genealogy program. If I have
what I believe to be conflicting info, in the notes I preface the paragraph or
sentence with the tag 'CONFLICT'. The source/sources are always included.

I also use the 'surname' INFO. Suppose in my database, I have many members
of the Whatzit family. I find information about Susan Whatzit. I have no proof
that she is a member of my Whatzit family though I feel that she might be.
Rather than discarding and discounting her (and 2 years down the road wishing
I'd kept her), I make her a member of the INFO family. She becomes Susan
Whatzit INFO. Or the way my program is set up..INFO, Susan Whatzit.

When I travel, ALL info is with me in my laptop.

Would love to hear of other suggestions, ideas.
thanks
