Gloria:
I suggest that you go to the South Carolina Archives on-line index and
search for a land grant in Abbeville for these families. If they did not
get the land by grant they may have got it through a purchase from a
previous land owner. There are deeds abstracted for Abbeville. It takes a
bit of WORK to find the material needed to document a family. I have been
researching in South Carolina for many years from a distance and have
found that not everything has gone up in smoke.

PS: If you haven't done so already, I also suggest that you obtain several
books on tools and methods of genealogical research and attend seminars in
your area. We never stop learning in this "hobby".
