Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: legalities of sharing info online & Genealogy.com

Bobbie,

I for one, always privatize my family file before I upload it out on to
the internet. I never give out my own name or info on living persons
either. I had a case on my wife's side of the family, where the
individual put my family info (Me, wife, & kids) and my wife's sisters'
and brothers' info out there without our permission. When we contacted
him, he agreed to take the names and birthdates off of me and my wife
and kids but was snotty about removing the brothers' and sisters' family
info. Fortunately Rootsweb World Connect installed the software that
cleaned the living people out, so it was removed anyway! I think most
of the websites tell you to contact the poster of the info. Not sure
they do anything if the person refuses to even listen to you.

Genealogy.com I believe is now owned and operated by Ancestry
(MyFamily.com). So I believe you probably would contact Ancestry
(MyFamily.com).

Hope this info helps.

Carl Sprouse
