Bobbie

A couple of questions.

(a) Where on "Genealogy.com" is the information? -- Specifically, the URL (web address) would help.

What other places on the web have the information?

Someone on this list may have an understanding of the mechanism of removal, if you can be specific.

(b) What is posted that couldn't be gotten from public records?

Like it or not, there is quite a bit of information about each of us "out there".

I will be the first to admit that years ago, when I first got started in electronic genealogy, I sent "my"
genealogy data to FTM for dissemination to the world. Of course, being not too smart, it also included my
siblings, their spouses and children, my children, etc.

Sorry to say, it is on CD #2, for all the world to see, and to copy, and to post anywhere on the internet
they please.

It is not "retrievable", or "changeable". It just *is*.

However, I will say, that I love it when I come across a "live" but unknown relative, culled from public
records, or someone's "oops".

So, let us know, maybe we can help. At least with some of it.

Pat (in Tucson)

|
|
|I have been researching lately and found information on the
|web at different genalogical
|sites for my immediate family. The information contains birth
|dates and places for
|people who are alive today.
|
|I have shared my family tree with many people who are related
|to me. I have NEVER given
|anyone permission to give out my information to others in a
|public forum.
|
|I hope all of you will think about this when you are placing
|your family history and/or
|gedcom on genealogical sites. If someone has shared their
|genealogy with you they are
|not giving you permission to publish it to the web.
|
|There are programs that will strip the info from a genealogy
|database on living
|individuals. We should all be using that when we give out
|info to others that is not
|ours to share.
|
|Genealogy.com is one example among many. Does anyone have a
|way of contacting them to
|find out who has place information there without the
|permission of the original people
|involved? I have searched their website but cannot find any
|information concerning how
|to contact them to get my personal information removed from their site.
|
|Thanks, Bobbie
