About this e-zine
MESSAGE FROM HARTFORD 2007 CO-CHAIRS:

Welcome to the second NEW ENGLAND CONNECTions 2007 e-zine! Between now and April 2007, we'll continue to update the genealogical community on what's happening with the ninth New England Regional Genealogical Conference through periodic e-zines like this one. Please share them with your friends and associates and anyone else you feel may be interested in attending the Conference.
Practice makes perfect, and by learning from the eight Regional Conferences NERGC has previously put together, Hartford 2007 is shaping up to be the best ever. We have experienced conference planners and organizers working on

 NEW ENGLAND CONNECTions 2007

....some of the best speakers including
Patricia Law Hatcher, Cyndi Howells, and Henry Z 'Hank" Jones
....some of the best National and Regional exhibitors...
and the best facilities, the
 Hartford Marriott Downtown,
 http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/BDLDT
and the Connecticut Convention Center,
 http://www.ctconventions.com/
 to ever hold the Conference.

Connecticut is proud to host the New England Regional Conference for the second time. The conference in Cromwell in April 1997 was very successful, and NEW ENGLAND CONNECTions 2007 will exceed that success.

Yankee magazine recently observed that Hartford is 'becoming one of the good-news stories of metropolitan New England," noting that it 'is now beginning to shine as brightly as the moon on the nearby Connecticut River." Discover Hartford for yourself! Visit the Old State House http://www.ctosh.org/, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art http://www.wadsworthatheneum.org/, and the historical treasures operated by the Antiquarian & Landmarks Society, http://www.hartnet.org/als/. But don't forget that the Connecticut State Library and the Connecticut Historical Society have some of the best research collections you will find anywhere.

NEW ENGLAND CONNECTions is still a year away, but interest is rapidly building. Start making plans your plans to attend now, watch the NERGC Web page, www.nergc.org for upcoming information, and be sure to register early (the $99 'early bird" rate for the entire conference ends January 15, 2007). With an impressive program in the works and with new and exciting events, including a Librarians Day being planned, you won't want to miss this memorable gathering.
Thomas F. Howard and Richard C. Roberts, Conference Co-Chairs
'CONNECT" TO CONNECTICUT'S GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES:
Connecticut State Library
A 'must visit" for anyone with Connecticut ancestors, The History and Genealogy Unit maintains and provides access to comprehensive collections of materials on the history of Connecticut and its people, in support of the State Library's mission 'to preserve and make accessible the records of Connecticut's history and heritage." Their website, http://www.cslib.org/ , provides an excellent introduction to what you will find there and their hours of operation.
Connecticut Historical Society
The Connecticut Historical Society, One Elizabeth Street at Asylum Avenue Hartford, CT 06105 Tel: (860) 236-5621, http://www.chs.org/ is a non-profit museum, library, and education center. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the diverse people - past and present - who have made Connecticut their home. The library, with more than 100,000 volumes and nearly three million manuscripts, including one of the nation's finest genealogical collections, is one of the state's major historical repositories along with Yale University, the State Library, and the University of Connecticut.
Godfrey Memorial Library
The Godfrey Memorial Library was incorporated in 1947 as a 'free public library of books, pamphlets, periodicals and other materials in the fields of American biography and genealogy and in related fields; to carry on and promote investigation and research in these fields and to publish the results thereof" The Library, at 134 Newfield Street Middletown, CT 06457-2534 (860) 346-4375, http://www.godfrey.org/ continues its mission of collecting genealogical materials and publishing. Its holdings include genealogies, reference books and indexes, including the 226 volume American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI), the largest genealogical reference set ever published.
And one of our Participating Societies, the

Connecticut Society of Genealogists
With more than 4,000 members worldwide, is among the largest societies devoted exclusively to U.S. genealogy. Its office, located at 175 Maple Street, East Hartford, (860) 569-0002 includes a Genealogy Library containing more than a thousand volumes covering a wide range of topics. As you might expect, its special strengths are Connecticut and neighboring states, but it also has material from across the U.S. and the world. Visit the CSL Web page, http://www.csginc.org/ to find out more!
