Delores, I keep reading this topic on the list because I'll probably find
something that will save me from having egg on my face in front of one of my
classes. Still, the thing to remember is the LOCATION WHERE THE EVENT
OCCURRED. That is where the records stayed - they did not move when a new
county (or state) was formed.

You did not give the date of death ... but presume after 1907?
Okemah, Seminole County, Oklahoma - July 1907 from Seminole Indian Lands.
County Clerk in Wewoka
Okfuskee County, Oklahoma - July 1907 from Creek Indian Lands. County Clerk
in Okemah
Maybe 'whoever' is saying the death certificate is incorrect because they
knew he lived in the other county??
However, If the place of death is truly incorrect and if you can prove that
fact, then apply for a 'corrected' death certificate. Did he die at home,
in a hospital, accident in the other county??? Also, check with the funeral
home ... perhaps they did make a mistake ... if it was their mistake ask
them to handle the corrected certificate.

Jennings is not unlike other towns ... Here in the Houston area, we have
Katy, Texas. As the city grew, it is now in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller
counties .... not borders but actual city limits are in all counties. The
guy could live in one county and die in the hospital six blocks away in
another county ... but where he died is what his death certificate will say.
The mail, of course, is delivered by town, not county.

Trevia Wooster Beverly
Houston, Texas
