Subject: [ROOTS-L] County Abbreviation

I found this interesting.
I worked for Hennepin County in MN for over 20 years. The abbreviation used
in all correspondence, in reference to our county and the other 86 counties,
was "Cty".
It was only after I "retired" (disability) and began genealogy on the
computer that I found others using "Co". I use Co at this point for uniformity but
occasionally catch myself reverting to the more familiar/comfortable Cty.
Jo Hogle

"There is an instance - the abbreviation for county, where I think it is good
to use the generally accepted Co and then the two-letter official post
office code for state. I do see people use CO for county and you can
actually know what they mean, but CO is the official abbreviation for
Colorado. I also see some use cty .. that is the abbreviation for City,
not county."
