My dad wrote his own obituary before he died 16 years ago.  BUT - he put it
on a floppy for storage.  Unfortunately, he had probably 500+ floppies.  We
never did find what he had written, so had to start from scratch.  Do your
family, make a hard copy of it as well as storing it on your computer -
along with everything you want at your funeral.  Make a file  called
FUNERAL.  Then, when the day comes, it will all be there - ready to be used
by your family.  We have such a file - with selected readings, bible
passages, hymns to sing.  Hopefully it will make it easier on our family
when the time comes.

and just leave the blanks for the obvious things.  That way, you know "they"
won't forget anything that esp. wanted people to know about you. I have done
this and gave it to my daughter who will settle my affairs when I am gone.
That also will make it easy on her. When my husband died suddenly a couple
yrs ago, the funeral home wanted an obit immediately and I sat up that night
writing it when all I really wanted to do was go to bed and forget the
