Subject: [ROOTS-L] Computer Genealogy Meeting

WHAT: Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area Meeting

WHEN: Saturday, March 18, 2006 - Doors open at 9 a.m.; meeting 9:30 a.m.
with general program/speaker. Breakout sessions for the major genealogy
software programs start at 11 a.m.; brown bag lunch; computer fundamentals
from 1-2 p.m.

WHERE: Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain Road, Fairview Park OH

PROGRAM:

Morning Program: Put Your Family on the Web with Jean Hoffman

Want to share your family history on the Internet, but don't know where to
start? In March Jean will get us started beginning with the easiest way:
sending a GEDCOM file to RootsWeb's WorldConnect. Some of the genealogy
programs and other software make it easy to create your own web pages. There
are free sites that will host your genealogy or you can even get your own
domain for a fee. We'll cruise through the why, how and where and ways to
get help then look at a few excellent examples.

Afternoon Session: RootsWeb Email Lists with Dick Rose.

Unable to spend many hours on the Internet "browsing" for information about
your ancestors? The early days of the Internet only provided email service
for the treasures of knowledge we sought. Many of us have forgotten how
meaningful it was to form those communication links. Let's re-visit the vast
family of surname lists as well as the enormous wealth of geographical
knowledge that still exists. All without excessive, costly online time
connected to the Internet. Don't call me cheap - just frugal. I'll show you
how to take advantage of the lists already existent and, if not now
available, how to go about establishing your own list. [That's right, we had
to wait a month for Dick's program as we took advantage of Christy's offer
to update us on using the library's new technology in February.]

The Computer Assisted Genealogy Group was formed in 1991 to 1) encourage the
use of personal computers for researching and processing genealogy data and
2) provide the resources for computer assisted genealogy education. Meetings
of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area are held nine times
a year at the new Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain Road,
Fairview Park, Ohio. Normally on the third Saturday of each month; no
meetings are scheduled in July, August or December. Guests are welcome.
