Joe, this is an instance where I don't think it much matters ... whatever
you're comfortable with.

There is an instance - the abbreviation for county, where I think it is good
to use the generally accepted Co  and then the two-letter official post
office code for state.  I do see people use CO for county and you can
actually know what they mean, but CO is the official abbreviation for
Colorado.   I also see some use cty .. that is the abbreviation for City,
not county.

Just a reminder to some of our new-to-genealogy folks out there:
      generally accepted example - Houston, Harris Co TX
All records are accessed by county ... even when you're looking up a Federal
census ... so the county is very important to note.  And, of course, almost
every state that I know about has more than one town by the same name, so it
really becomes important to let your reader know which county your town is
in.
