Subject: [ROOTS-L] Glue on gown - things to try

Glue on gown - things to try.
First, try putting superglue on a rag or scrap fabric that is the same
content as the christening gown. If gown is cotton, put a similar amt of
glue on scrap. Then, try boiling water. Try one of those Shark or Scunci
steamers they sell in the middle of the night, or if job is small enough
maybe a steaming teakettle would do. I would lay it flat with an absorbent
cloth backing under the garment or scrap fabric.
If the glue is destroyed by the hot water or steam, then try same water or
steam on a corner of the gown. If it works & doesn't damage the gown, then
it would work on the original glue spot.
Acetone (fingernail polish remover) - try that on a test glue spot/scrap
fabric. Just don't be wearing colored nail polish when handling it or it
could come off your nails & onto the gown or scrap - not to mention wrecking
how your nails look... ha
Acetone is terrific on nylon carpeting for removing lipstick or oil-based
make-up stains and the carpet fibers are completely untouched.
Never open a tube of superglue with your teeth... Good advice someone gave
me once.
Good luck on the glue removal project!
