In great sympathy, as I live less than one paycheck from disaster, I
would offer that that 'tis better to have a great hobby like genealogy
at a poor level of efficiency, accuracy and sourcing -than to quit in
humiliation and chagrin because you can't afford Ancestry.

I have found WorldConnect and GenCircles to be great free sources. And
there's a second tier of other good sites. Sure, many of the the trees
on them are seriously under-sourced, and many many are just aggregations
of each other. But wow! what a heap of facts are in there. If you wish,
call them "leads needing future validation", but don't let that stop you
from downloading!

Parsing your message a little closer, perhaps you wish more specifically
for sources of sources. Heritage Quest has the censuses, although not
as well indexed as Ancestry, and is available at many libraries and
through some societies. -free, to up to $100. Until recently, the
Godfrey Library was my fav., $35/yr. The Mormon's library system may
have a branch near you. $4, approx, to rent a microfilm from Salt Lake's
vast collection. Many others.
