I have a similar problem. My great grandparents were born (with 50
miles of Vienna)in the mid-1800's. My grandmother always told me they
were polish, yet the few census records of USA show them from Austria.
They were Frank Drevick and Mary Drevick (nee Barron). I cannot find
them on any immigration lists, nor have I been able to identify their
origins in "Austria". The last name is not on any lists, so it may have
been changed. I know they were in Montana in 1897 when their first son
was born. They seem to have arrived by space ship!!

This brings up a question that I haven't remembered to ask before. My
great-grandmother, Justina Nahadil (sp?), was born in Fuenfkirchen,
Austria. Which, I'm led to believe, is now known as Pecs and is in
Hungary (I'm still working on this, as there may be another Fuenfkirchen
in Austria, a very small area with a castle, is what I'm told. So far
Google searches haven't borne this out). Anyway, my question is this:
If your ancestor was born in a part of the world that used to be
Austria, became part of Czechoslavakia, and is now in the Czech
Republic, what nationality was she, and to which nationality would
future generations from that ancestor claim to be? Our family tells that
she was Austrian, and Census Records say Czechoslavakia.
