And I do the reverse of what Shirley does: I put the literal "where they
were born" in, and an updated description in the notes for that item.

My grandmother was born in Pontotoc County, Chickasaw Nation, Indian
Territory.  That location is currently Garvin County, Oklahoma, but there
was no such place when she was born.  Could be my training as a historian
that biases me in the direction of using "what they called it when the event
actually happened."
