Good morning Lynne
I have had an external hard drive for storage of all my back up files and
other larger files which I wanted to get off CD into a more accessible mode.
This external hard drive connects to my main PC via USB.  The hard drive is
160 Gigabytes and it has been a life saver for I lost a hard driver about a
year ago.  All I had to do was buy a new hard drive for the PC and load my
back up files into the new hard drive.
This external hard drive is a Maxtor.  
There are a number of small storage disks similar to thumb drives which
contain space up to 4 Gigabyte and most of them are under $100.
