Subject: [ROOTS-L] married twice

for John in Kansas (John Dickerson)

my parents were married to each other twice (no divorce or separation in
between) and my daughter was married twice to her husband (no divorce or
separation in between). in both situations the second marriages occurred in
different locations than the first one. all the marriages were legal with separate
licenses.

sometimes there are circumstances such as cultural customs, pleasing the
grooms and the brides parents, or other oddities that require the second
marriage between the same spouses. i would guess that may be the case in your
ancestry--the marriage one location may not be recognized by the other church so
had to be done there too.
