Subject: [ROOTS-L] problem

I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with.   In researching we have hit a brick wall.  Searching for Clarence Bowles.  Clarence, we think was born out of wedlock to a Bettie Bowles.  Maybe two children from this couple, a girl named Mary.  We have been told that Bowles is not the right name for either Betty or Clarence.  How would one go about finding these people?   All we know is that they were from Burkes Garden in Bland, Virginia.  Thanks, Dorothy
