I go to the American Automobile Association to get maps of the states.  If you
are a member they are free.

In my case I have purchased a few while in Europe but I have also purchased
some at Boarders.

This can be a problem sometimes.  Genealogy seminars sometimes have hand outs
of these old maps.  Occasionally you can buy them again usually at a genealogy
meeting or seminar.
