Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Postings to Genealogical Sites

I saw a posting of "netiquette" rules when I was first on the internet in
early 2000. I wish I had made more than one copy of the rules, as I have
misplaced the copy I did have. If I happen across it, I will post it again
and give the source. At the moment, I don't even recall from which site I
received it. I do remember that the netiquette rules I found DID NOT
CONDONE correcting anyone's spelling or other gramatical errors...period!
As an "old-timer" at genealogy and family history, I will not criticize
anyone's grammar, spelling, etc., not even close kin!

Even if I try to correct some misinformation about ancestors, I always try
to do it with tact, diplomacy and above all, courtesy. I re-read all of my
posts before I send them, to be certain I have said exactly what I wanted to
say and not leave out anything. I sometimes do quite a bit of editing
before sending them. My postings are NEVER typed up and sent out in a
hurry. If I don't really have the time, I will wait until later or the next
day. I have received many e-mails and letters that were just a mish-mash of
information, so had to write back and ask the person to clarify what they
sent me. The writers were in too big a hurry! Mary P. in Washington
