Subject: [ROOTS-L] Document preservation

I have had several rolled-up documents restored. If you are near a 
college or university, their library can give you the best help. The 
document needs to be humidified by placing it in a large plastic 
container with an inch of water in the bottom. Then place a screen over 
- but not touching!! - the water held up with some kind of support. Lay 
the document on top, cover the container, and let it sit at room 
temperature for several days. Check to see if the document can be 
gently unrolled.  When you can finally unroll it, lay it flat on clean 
white paper, cover with another sheet of paper, and top with a weight 
(large book or flat board) to allow the document to dry flat.  This may 
again take several days. Then store or frame it using archival 
techniques.   For more information, go to Google and search under
