Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Why should people help you?

Hi everybody,

my name is Anna, I live in Sweden and don't have English as my native
language.

I've been following this discussion about "Why should people help you?" on
and off and read some, not all, of the messages. So forgive me if I might
say something that already has been said. :-)

I read that it's not rude nor poor netiquette to correct grammar and
spelling and it probably isn't, it all depends on how one correct the
misspelling etc. I do, however, feel that perhaps this talk about people not
being "able" to spell could scare off some of the list members who don't
have English as their native language.

Many Swedes immigrated to the US and therefor I believe that there might be
some Swedish people on this list. Probably people from other countries as
well. I know that my English grammar and my spelling is far from correct,
but I hope it doesn't mean that one have to be afraid of asking for advice
about genealogy related matters. Perhaps there is someone, who hasn't
English as his/her native language, who is reading these messages about poor
grammar etc and as a result of this gets scared of asking for advice because
he/she isn't that good at the English language.

I'm trying to live my life by treating others like I want to be treated and
if I unknowingly offend or make someone sad I try to appologize, because I
definitely don't want to offend or hurt anyone. So I hope that I haven't
offended or hurt anyone with this message - in such case I appologize! I
also hope that I don't seem to be hostile towards anyone - that is
definitely NOT my intent!! And when it comes to my grammar and spelling - I
know for sure I've made some mistakes in this message, but I'm hoping it's
okey anyway as I'm doing the best I can! :-)

Before I sign off I just want to say thank you to this list and that I
really do appreciate all the help I have gotten from kind and helpful
people! I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have in my research about my
relatives that immigrated to the US if it wasn't for you! :-)

Kind regards,
Anna in Sweden
