Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: GEN-NEWBIE

Since 4:51 this morning, mountain time, I've gotten more than 54 messages with these topics:

Medical tax deduction
Calculator question
FTM 90
CD ROM
The Button Tin
Windows Media Player
Allowed over the counter medicine
Google Earth...something...
OT -- Birthday Suggestion
Illinois Death Index
Vonage
question on picture
Open Office Calendar
Any bloggers here?
Which brand of CD disks to use
Security
Anyone from Pittsburg (Pittsburghese)
FYI
suggestion for phone call ale...
Regbackup
Best International Cemetery
Online Illinois Databases
AOL & Yahoo stamps

I joined the list with the intent to help, but really....what do I know about Pittsburg? Or OTC
medications? Or care. Or, during "relaxed" times, 150 recipes for corn bread (to which I probably
gleefully added my two cents worth).

I'm leaving the Gen-Newbie list because it simply takes too much of my time to find the "real genealogy"
questions among the rest of those things.

I think it's a shame. What it really means is that "newbies" (and by the way, that phrase far predates
this list) have no "place" where they can go for mentoring and guidance *except* this list.

Now that I know that, I, for one, am resolving to tone down my sometimes snarky remarks. Anyone with me?

Pat (in Tucson)

|Anyone who has been there knows it goes far beyond that.
|Genealogy posts (newbie or otherwise) are in the minority.
