On the other hand, if that person happens to be the one who ended up
with great-great-grandpa's Bible, hey, I don't care if they know
geography or can tell a first cousin once removed from an aunt, I just
want them to know a safe way to copy the pages and get me that all
important clue to get through my brick wall.

Seriously, we are all kinds of researchers here, from some well-known
academic sorts (whom I won't "out") to school kids working on a paper
to beginners who don't own atlases to obsessives (hi!) who've been
pottering at this for decades. If someone is new and doing sloppy
research, it's pretty easy to tell. Give them a hand but ... don't
put too much weight on their conclusions. We all double-check the
sources, anyhow, right?

Or at least ... we intend to!
