OBITUARY - Church of St. Ambrose - Deadwood, D.T., Feb. 24, '84 - Editor
Jefferson Democrat:
At the request of the family of deceased I communicate to you the sad
news, that Mrs. David GALVIN, nee DUNNIGAN, died at her residence in Galena,
last Wednesday morning, after a short, but painful illness. Her death was as
edifying as her life. She died after having received the holy rites of the
church from my hands, regretted by all who knew her. Her funeral, which took
place last Friday, was attended by the entire community of Galena. She left four
children, from the age of 11 to 1 1/2 years. The oldest girl, eight years,
was placed in charge of the Sisters here in Deadwood, and the youngest is nursed
by a kind friend. Yours Truly, Father P. BOSEN.

after a short illness. Her remains were taken to Sandy for interment. She
leaves a husband and five little children to mourn her loss.

Sylvester MOTHERSHEAD and George and Isaac COUCH started, last Monday for
Colorado.

LICENSED TO MARRY - Michael CLOVER and Agnes BAURICHTER, Samuel L. HICKS and
Binah C. WARNE, Lemuel A. ATCHISON and Melvina WILSON.

Matthew WYNN is rejoicing over the advent of bean-eater No. 2 at his house.
It is a boy, and Matt. says he's a fullblooded Irishman, but as the mother is
German, we think fatherly pride is claiming too much this time.

Wm. HUFF of De Soto, passed through town enroute to Crawford County, where he
is to be married to Miss Jennie BRICKY. We wish Bill and bride much joy and
happiness, and trust their greatest troubles may be little ones. - Potosi
Independent.

Edward STEPHENS and wife of Pevely, have been sorely tried by Him who doeth
all for the best, and have our heartfelt condolence. On the 29th of last month,
after a short struggle with pneumonia, they lost their son, Elmer E., aged 1
year and 17 days.

They had an exciting time over their election in De Soto, on the first day of
this month, the biggest contest being over the school directors. Charles T.
RANKIN and F.C. SMITH were the successful candidates. James TRIMMER was
elected marshal and James HOPSON, Fred. SCHULTZ and John FRECH aldermen.

John FLEMING, aged about 27 years, employed as a car-repairer, was killed
last Wednesday at De Soto. He and C. TULL were under a car, making some repairs,
when an engine struck it. One wheel passed over FLEMING, while TULL saved
his life by grasping an axle of the car. Mr. F. had his right arm fractured near
the shoulder, the thorax crushed, the left arm broken, and made one gasp and
expired. the Coroner's jury laid his death to the carelessness of the
railroad company, for not having a track for the purpose of switching disabled cars
onto for repairs. FLEMING was an exemplary young man, and leaves a sister, who
resides in St. Louis, to mourn his loss. His funeral, on Thursday, was
largely attended, the A.O.U.W. and I.O.G.T. lodges of which he was an honored
member, turning out in force and full regalia.

Mary ENRIGHT, an old widow lady, died at High Ridge on the 2nd inst., aged 82
years. She was a pensioner of the United States, and spent her time
principally in making quilts. She seemed as well as usual that morning, and after
breakfast laid down to take her usual forenoon nap, and when called for dinner
she did not respond. On examination she was fund dead in bed. 'Squire DILLON
held an inquest, which developed nothing.
