Subject: [ROOTS-L] RE: ROOTS-L Digest V06 #45 re:Bedford County Poorhouse

Am a native of the county.
The Bedford County Poorhouse was later called The County Home. In later
years, people who needed care and could not afford private nursing homes
were put in care of the county. There is a Potter's Field across the road
from the main building.
The Home (Poorhouse) had a farm attached and this property was farmed until
the home was closed, and perhaps a short while after. I remember that
someone was hired to work this farm. I presume that profits were used for
the support of the home.
This is a subject that shouldn't be too hard to research.
