With them but separated by some names is Julia's father-in-law, Solomon Tombs, Sr. On the same census but in a different township my great grandmother, Elizabeth Tomes/Toms/Tombs Moore, was a servant girl in a household. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Poor House in Bedford, Bedford Co., PA in 1870? Would it be what was called a "Work House" later? In 1860 they seemed to be doing well living in a house. I don't know what happened between 1860 and 1870. Any history of that period other than the War Between the States? I've not found any records for Solomon under the three spellings on any CW roster. A few Solomon Thomas, but that seems far fetched and mine did leave a widow. Shirley Maynard Hampton, VA
