A little bit of English history re renting property. Those people in
Scotland, Ireland, England and wales who rented property were not unstable people or
people who were always "shifting" around but people who had NO option but
to rent. Pre the second World War in these countries most property was rented
as few people could afford to buy their own houses. It is only since the
Second World War that more people are buying rather than renting their
properties. Agricultural Labourers were the salt of the earth and very stolid, living
in the tied agricultural cottages that were attached to the farms. Many
families lived in these cottages in the villages and hamlets for hundreds of years.
Many moved away from the country into the towns at the time of the
Industrial Revolution in the 1700's only to escape one hovel for another in the
various cotton/woolen mill towns. a good understanding of British history will help
you all to understand your roots much better.

Janet
