I've researched the Census images, death indexes, etc by just going to the public library. Another source is online. Heritage Quest is now available for free online through a public library card, your driver's license, or a state identification card. Here's the address: http://www.eogen.com/HeritageQuestOnline You'll have to check out your state for the specifics. The addresses and info are listed there according to each state. Heritage Quest has Census images, periodicals, etc. However the 1930 Census is only for a few selected states. You would have to go to the Ancestry Plus/Ancestry Library Edition to get the 1930 Census images for states Heritage Quest doesn't have. I happen to have one Fischer surname in my family tree. She was Elizabeth Viola Fischer and was married to Dr. Oscar Wayne Sprouse. Don't know much about her parents except from what I found in the Census--countries of origin.
