What reference was given in Filby's for this information?

Since you question if your family actually disenbarked in NY or Baltimore,
where do you find them on the first census after arrival? The first federal
census would be 1890 (mostly lost) so 1900 .. and they certainly could have
moved by then. But what about state census records?

Also suggest you check Filby & Meyers ... Immigration & Passenger Lists
Index (multi-series).

And you might also check the North Lloyd line ... several. The North German
Lloyd line is at http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/nglloyd.html
** other lines are

The Cunard Line begun by Samuel Cunard in1840 as the North American Royal
Mail Steam Packet Company but always known as the Cunard Line.

The White Star Line original founded around 1845, started sailing ship
voyages the following year; sold to Thomas Henry ismay, 1867; sold to
American financier J. Pierpont Morgan in 1902.

The Red Star Line was founded as the International Navigation Company of
Philadelphia in 1871; better known as the Red Star Line. In 1872, a Belgian
subsidiary was formed at Antwerp and maintained a weekly service beginning
19 January 1873 between Philadelphia and Antwerp. Between 1873 and 1935 the
Red Star Line shipping company transported almost three million people from
Antwerp. << http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/redstar.html

The Allan Line - 19th Century. Mostly carried immigrants to Canada. Began
1852 by Alexander Allen and his sons. <<

Hamburg-American Line - The Hamburg America Line was the first German
transatlantic steamship line, established in 1847. <

Bremen Lloyd Line - The North German Lloyd was founded in 1857 by the
amalgamation of four smaller companies. Numerous Lloyd connections found
online.
