I have a Great Uncle John Conkle born about March 1842 in Pennsylvania and
saw action before the fall of Vicksburg. The family story gives the date of
death as December 11, 1863.

Place of enlistment is unknown but he was listed on 1860 Census as living in
Dayton Twp., Richland Co., WI.

The closest match I have found is a John Conkley, Private, Co. G, 27th
Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, entered service August 18, 1862 from Highland , WI.
Discharged December 4, 1863. Highland is located about 20 miles from his
home in Richland County, WI.

What I would like to know could this John Conkley be my Great Uncle John
Conkle?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Les conkle
