Hi Bev,

My wife and I just retired and went throught the process of setting up
survivor benefits with Social Security. We had to present both our
birth certificates and our marriage certificate. Absent a marriage
certificate, there were other documents that would work. But, SS only
used the certificate to establish we were indeed married. They looked
at, marked something on the application, but did not copy the
certificate. The agent just handed it back to us when she had
verified we were married. So, I doubt you could get any information
from them.

Jim
