Hello,

I found this information of interest. I had asked a lady in West
Virginia to search for my Grandfather's death certificate. He died during
the 1918 flu epidemic, although I am told of a brain hemorrhage. This lady
found his Letter of Intent, but no death certificate. On man familiar with
the times and area suggested he may have died in another community where the
railroad operated a hospital better than the one in Oak Hill, at that time.

I wrote to the local newspaper less than a year ago and asked if
there were archives of obituaries. I included my e-mail address, but, very
sadly, no reply. (I can't help but to find that rude-- how long does it
take to sent an e-mail stating whatever?!) One hypothesis is that there
were so many deaths, he may not have had a death certificate issued! I was
also informed that WV did not mandate death certificates until 1917, one
year before his death, and the coroner may have been overwhelmed. Any
thoughts on the solution to this dilemma.

My grandfather worked in the coal mine in Minden, West Virginia, and
is buried in a neighboring Odd Fellow's cemetery in the town of Oak Hill,
WV. (He and my Grandmother came to America from England about 1909.) It was
to the newspaper in Oak Hill that I requested information on the obituary.
Is there anyone in that area who can add light to the solution to my
dilemma?

	Stay well. FRED in PA.

Have you tried getting the Mr. Dean's death certificate from WV and follow
up with the newspaper obituary? That is usually a sure way to find
descendents.
