If you are concerned about privacy and want to be able to publicize just
enough information about your trees for interested researchers to find you,
and to not have to reveal your email address unless you choose to respond to
inquiries about your trees, try the free Family Tree Registry at
www.FamilyTreeRegistry.org, which also has advanced search functionality.
The Registry is essentially an annotated bibliography of family trees, not
an actual collection of family trees, so it includes basic descriptive
information about trees and links to where they can be found (e.g.,
Ancestry, a published book, a repository, a private contact).

Well even if you keep it private they must be letting out enough for other
researchers to find your information. I just got an email from Ancestry that
someone was seeking to view my information concerning one ancestor. I would
like to figure out how to contact this person without revealing too much
about myself. Most of the information I have is on line if you know where to
look. Although the individual being asked about I do have collateral
information and he is tied into my family on at least two different lines.
So now I have to decide if I am ready to share.
