Apparently the "Private Member Tree" is derived either from a GEDCOM that is uploaded as Private, or
"create your own tree from scratch". Starting one from scratch has a message:

\ \ Allow others to see my tree as a public member tree and allow my tree information to be compiled
into OneWorldTree

If you don't check the box, the information, in small pieces, will be shown (on a search) under the
heading "private member trees" or something like that. From there, you can only send e-mails to the
originator requesting further information. I think that's what Ann found and didn't get a response to.

But it is not included in the OWT search engine.

I got a query from someone the other day that said it was regarding an entry on a "personal tree" --
didn't say it was private or public -- problem is, the name isn't in any tree of mine. Go figure. I
responded to the person making the query, but haven't gotten a response. That's one of the reasons I
started the quest of new uploads and trying to figure this out.

By the way -- "click to share" apparently means that you can e-mail to other researchers to notify them
that the tree is "up." Has nothing to do with whether the tree is public or private.

As a long time supporter of Ancestry, but at the same time a long time creator/maintainer of long-distance
databases, I can say that it would be nice if they would have a big headline right after the Trees tab and
explain all this to their loyal old-timers and those just getting started. Look how much work we are doing
to figure this out.

|I went to check it out and all I could find was your old data.
|I even checked under edit the personal information to see if
|the corrected birthdate might be listed as an option and it
|isn't. I thought what is they just merged the information.
|
|I do have a question. If we are entering information through
|create your own tree; is this somehow referenced in searches
|but shown as private. I have been doing this but never click
|to share as I don't feel I have enough documentation.
|Basically census records and other records available through
|Ancestry. I was under the impression you had to create a
|gedcom for the information to show online. Am I stupid or
|having a senior moment.
