Gerald,

	If you have the name of the ship you can find the company
he worked for and/or the union he belonged to.  Both of those
entities may have further information.

	The U.S. Coast Guard will have issued a "Mariner's Doc-
ument," "Marine Officer Masters" license and a "Discharge" for 
each tour of duty.  I'm not sure what the USCG's policy is with 
regard to letting you have copies.  His family should have those 
documents among his personal effects.

	If you want to share his obit with me I will see if I can help
you find out more.
