Virginia used to be a much bigger area. You'll need to track down a map of Virginia at the time of the marriage, as eight other states were made from land that used to be part of Virginia...Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. (It blew me away when I found that out.) The Animap computer program may help. There is still a Hennessey County in Illinois. Could that have been it?
