Oh, my! you've left it wide open! You question << But is there any other
records in the courthouse that I should be looking for? >> tells me you must
be fairly new to genealogy - You are not leaving on your trip until
October so you have time to do several things to make your trip successful.

There is no way we can teach a genealogy session on courthouses on this
site, at least not a "everything you ever wanted to know" session.

Get thee to your library! Hopefully your library has an online catalog.
You do not say where you are located so I cannot help you there with hints
or specifics. There will be a number of books you'll want to look at before
you go. Hopefully your library has a copy of "Courthouse Research for Family
Historians" by Christine Rose or some other good one. If they have "The
Source" by Arlene Eakle & Johni Cerny you will find much need information
there. Also check Everton's "The Handy Book" under OHIO to see important
information about the state and those counties. You need to know when they
were formed and what records they have. Remember that records do not move
when a new county is formed so you must know where to look for a specific
time period. WARREN CO was created Feb 1808 FROM Columbus Co ... Columbus
Co was created Mar 1803 from Jefferson and Washington counties .... so how
do your dates fall? And finally, at your library you will want to see what
specific books and microfilm they have on Warren, Columbus, etc. counties
....

Go on your trip prepared! Do your homework! Have your family charts in
order and do some general historical reading on the county. Check out
what's in your local genealogy collection - I can't tell you how many times
in the classes I've taught that someone tells me they, for example, went to
Salt Lake City and found .... Then I gently tell them that "we have that
right here at Clayton Library."

Have a wonderful, safe and successful research trip!

Folks, I'm suggesting again that when you write a query for help on any list
, tell where you are located. You first name with the county/state is
sufficient if you're worried about privacy (genealogy is not a private
endeavor; most of us are known 'all over.'). Often the reader can give you
specific resources/repositories. And second, I suggest that some
apparently depend almost entirely on the Internet and never go to the
library ... do not fall into this trap! There are things and people at your
library that can move you right along with your research problems.

> My husband and I are traveling to Ohio (Lebanon, Warren County) in October
to do some genealogy research on my paternal line (Collins). When we head to
the county courthouse, I'll be searching for a marriage record for my
great-great-great-grandparents (William A. Collins & Martha Jane {Conrey}
Collins). I'd like to find a death certificate for both of them as well. But
is there any other records in the courthouse that I should be looking for?
For instance, there was a Cowan & Collins carpentry business that was run by
William A. Collins and a partner - don't know the partner's name (aside from
his last name of Cowan, of course!). Would a business license or something
of that sort be on file at the courthouse? And would I be able to find it
without knowing anything else about the business except it's name and it was
located in Lebanon, Ohio?
