Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: ROOTS-L Digest V06 #351 DAR & SAR

If there are males out there who have not heard of the National Society Sons
of the American Revolution (NSSAR) I direct your attention to our national
web site of _www.sar.org_ (http://www.sar.org/) . Begin with the drop down
menu of "About SAR" to learn about our purpose, our beginnings and our
membership. The basic Tenets of SAR are to perpetuate the people and events of the
American Revolution, to maintain the institutions of American Freedom, and to
promote fellowship among the descendants of Revolutionary War Patriots. The SAR
is not only a genealogical institution but a Society of men who have
dedicated their efforts to keep the standards of American Citizenship at a high
level, to promote patriotism, to preserve our American history, to reinforce
American Institutions, and to inculcate loyalty to American ideals.
Heritage societies such as SAR, DAR and the Mayflower Society are becoming
more blue collar than blue blood - those of every race and creed are now being
counted in their membership. The "Membership" drop down menu will help you
to determine if you are eligible to join. It is estimated that 35 million
people are eligible but our membership numbers are far less than that number.
Under the same menu go to the "New Member Helper" location and seek out the
helper in your state. Every member of the Sons of the American Revolution is
proud of his heritage. Why else would they decide to join the SAR? All of us
have researched our Revolutionary War ancestors and found them to be people who
sacrificed in many ways to win their freedom. Our hope is that you will feel
empowered to do the research and trace your family's roots back to the
Revolutionary War and file an application to join.
J. Michael Jones
NSSAR Librarian GeneralAZSSAR Membership Chairman
