I think you're talking about a History Channel (not PBS) show: an episode of
"Digging for the Truth" entitled "The Da Vinci Code: Bloodlines", hosted by
Josh Bernstein.  Bernstein tested the DNA of Aregund, wife of Merovingian
ruler Clotaire I (which, as you pointed out, wouldn't tell us anything about
the ancestors of the earlier Merovingians themselves).  But let's not blame
PBS for the History Channel's poor science.
