Bob, Interesting heads up, thank you.

The only problem I've had with the programs on PBS lately that deal with DNA
was the one that they did on one of their shows about the Da Vinci Code.
It's the show that has kind of an 'in search of' premise. I can't remember
the host or the name of the show off the top of my head. Normally I really
like it, the guy travels all around the world and explores different topics
through science and history.

This particular show was set to discover if the Morovingian (spellings
probably wrong *BG*) Kings in France were REALLY, possibly related to
Christ. They took DNA from a Jewish sect that lives in Jerusalem still and
is pretty much been an undisturbed gene pool since the time of Christ (sorry
I don't remember the name of this religious group) but they had a Middle
Eastern marker in their DNA. Then they got permission from the French
government, who is doing an archealogical dig on the burial chamber of a
known Morovingian Queen and King....They used a tooth from the Queen and
found DNA and ALL the markers were for European ancestry. So they concluded
that the Morovingians were not related to anyone with Middle Eastern
ancestry, including Christ.

Think about this and tell me what the problem is from a genealogical
perspective with this scenario? It struck me immediately and bugged me
silly.

ANSWER: The QUEEN's DNA can't tell them SQUAT about the Morovingian
line...she MARRIED into it, she wasn't BORN into the line of descent. They
needed to use the King, or a princess from the line :) I was appalled that
no one caught the logic flaw in the entire episode. They needed to have 2
samples with the possibility of a common blood line. LOL

It was one frustrating show, but you know, if they show it on television, it
must be true (tongue very firmly in cheek!)

Take care all,
S o n d r a
