Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Interesting Question

I can only second those who have replied "Do it NOW!" At 74, with over 50
years of research, I have been striving mightily these last few years to make
available as much of it as I can. I have finished books on each of my
parents' lines -- printing hard copies for family members and appropriate
libraries. At the conclusion of each, I deposited the backup documentation at
receptive archives or libraries and passed along other papers to more distant
cousins who seemed likely to pursue additional research. I may in the future
refine some of the work on generations 10-12 back but at least a great deal is in
now the hands of others.

I have also slimmed down my personal library, giving research collections to
libraries which have indicated an interest - that is, the books will go on
the shelves, not in the next book sale!

For now, I am devoting as much time as I can to finishing up the family
lines of my late husband. My children, bless them all, simply do not have an
interest in "Mother's strange hobby," but I am hoping some of the grandchildren
might pick up the torch.

I can only repeat -- make a plan, and make it now. Life is uncertain and I
surely don't want to leave my heirs with the huge problem of trying to figure
out what I would have wanted done.
